Buy A2 Motorcycle
Finally 18 and the opportunity to drive on the road yourself. Now you have the choice. Would you rather get a class B car licence or an A2 motorbike licence? The class A2 driving licence is the advanced driving licence of class A1, which you can take at the age of 16 and which allows you to drive light motorbikes.
Now the only question is:
Which motorbikes am I allowed to drive at all with a driving licence of this class?
If you are younger than 24, there are a few essential things you need to know when buying a motorbike.
The engine power of the bike may be a maximum of 35 kW and the unthrottled output engine may not exceed 70 kW. You can therefore only drive a motorbike with a maximum of 48 hp. If that's too slow for you, you should consider getting a Class A licence, which allows you to ride all types of motorbikes.
If you have already held an A1 driving licence for 2 years, you can take a practical test directly without having to take another theory test. It works the same way if you want to move up from A2 to A. Whether you want to take driving lessons or not is entirely up to you, but recommended if you have irregular driving experience. If you do not yet have a motorbike licence, you can only take the class A driving test at the age of 24.
Until 2013, you were only allowed to ride motorbikes up to 34 hp with an A2 licence and an age of 18, but now you can ride one with up to 48 hp. However, make sure that your bike does not weigh less than 175 kg. This sounds a bit strange at first, but the authorities think that otherwise the bike would be too fast. Opponents of this regulation find this explanation questionable. They justify this by saying that a heavy motorbike is, after all, more difficult for novice riders to ride. Also, as a beginner rider, it is always good if your bike has an ABS system. A motorbike with a CBS system requires a certain amount of riding experience.
In the meantime, there are models from almost all manufacturers that can be ridden with an A2 licence. However, you should always bear in mind that heavy motorbikes, if they are throttled to 35 kW, could become very sluggish.
We can especially recommend BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Triumph, Suzuki and Yamaha. If you are a huge Harley Davidson fan, you can of course also look for a machine of this type. All 48 hp bikes have ABS, but they differ enormously in certain features. For example, the "Triumph Street Triple" costs 8490€ and can accelerate to 175 km/h. A cheaper model would be the "Honda CB 500 F" which is one of the cheapest at 4490€ and can still go up to 124km/h with its 23 hp.
Most two-wheelers for A2 licence holders can go between 124 km/h and 175 km/h and weigh between 134 kg and 208 kg.
To get started, we recommend that you buy a used motorbike from a reputable dealer to be on the safe side. Check out which motorbikes look good to you and fit into your budget. Finally, before you make a decision, you should always take a test ride. It's best to test ride different models from different brands and choose the bike you feel most comfortable and safe on.
